How to prepare

Read each question aloud with your child, let them choose an answer, and then read the explanation together. Short daily sessions of ten questions work better than one long sitting, because children remember facts best when they meet them again and again.

Turn the quiz into a game: keep score, give a star for each correct answer, and come back to the missed questions after two or three days. Linking a fact to something the child can see, such as the national flag at school or a bee in the garden, makes it stick. Once your child knows these 50 questions well, move on to the class 4 set.

Study tips

  • Practise ten questions a day instead of all fifty at once.
  • Ask your child to explain the answer in their own words after reading it.
  • Revisit the questions they got wrong after two days to check that the fact has stuck.
